Meditation

Black raven hair in my shoulder, in the sink.

My hair is my father’s. He carried his pick

with its fist in his pocket with his dream for me?

We the People are Tired of your shit.

That I have time to contemplate this raven

set in scripture against gold, against milk, against the Promise?

The raven is black and its cry is bright yellow.

My words are my steel

when I defend my fellow

Brown and Black people.

Human, not animal.

Our cries are a color,

our cries that you see through.

Black as a raven.

Black as God made it.

Our People are not defined by your negativity

Black as a raven

because God holds no fear.
